What TGC Members Need to Know
At TGC Athletics, we know that staying active goes far beyond the course. Whether you're playing golf, competing on the tennis courts, enjoying pickleball, or focusing on your overall fitness, taking care of your body is essential to performing well and staying injury-free.
Two of the most valuable resources available to our members are personal training and physical therapy—but understanding when to use each can make all the difference.
While both disciplines focus on improving movement and overall health, they serve very different purposes. Here’s how to know which is right for you.
The Role of Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is centered around recovery and rehabilitation. A licensed physical therapist is a healthcare provider trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat injuries or movement limitations.
At TGC Athletics, members have access to onsite care through:Reed Brannon, Physical Therapist, SandersFit Rehab & Therapy
Physical Therapy Focus
Injury rehabilitation (shoulder, elbow, knee, back, hip)
Post-surgical recovery
Pain reduction
Restoring mobility and function
Correcting movement patterns
These services are especially important for athletes in rotational and high-movement sports like golf, tennis, and pickleball, where overuse injuries are common.
When to Choose Physical Therapy
You should start with physical therapy if you’re experiencing:
Persistent or worsening pain
A recent injury or surgery
Shoulder or elbow pain from racquet sports
Back or hip issues affecting your golf swing
Knee pain during movement or play
The Role of Personal Training
Personal training is focused on performance, strength, and long-term fitness. Certified trainers work with you and our Physical Therapist to build a stronger, more capable body tailored to your goals.
At TGC Athletics, our Certified Training team includes:

When to Work with a Personal Trainer
Personal training is ideal if your goals include:
Improving strength and endurance
Enhancing performance in golf, tennis, or pickleball
Increasing flexibility and rotational power
Building a consistent fitness routine
Preventing injuries before they occur

How They Work Together
At TGC Athletics, these services are designed to complement one another—not compete.
A typical progression for members using physical therapy may look like this:
Evaluation to determine medical necessity for PT (Family Practice Provider, Urgent Care, Orthopedic, PT Evaluation)
Begin with physical therapy to address pain or injury
Restore mobility, strength, and proper movement
Transition into personal training
Continue building strength, performance, and long-term fitness
This approach allows for a safe and effective return to sport, whether you're stepping back onto the golf course or returning to competitive play.
Sport-Specific Considerations
Each sport places unique demands on your body:
Golf: rotational mobility, hips, lower back
Tennis: shoulder, elbow, lateral movement
Pickleball: knees, balance, reaction time
